Igor Yusufov

Igor H. Yusufov

Igor Yusufov was born on June 12, 1956 in the town of Derbent, Dagestan ASSR.

Married, two sons.


Igor Yusufov graduated with honours from the Novocherkassk Polytechnic Institute as an electricity engineer. He holds a degree in International Economics from the All-Union Foreign Trade Academy.

Professional experience

Mr Yusufov has more than 30 years’ experience in energy and oil and gas industries.

He started his career in 1979 as Engineer at Mosenergo.

From 1984 for three years he participated in the construction of Havana thermal power plant (Cuba) as Senior Expert.

From 1991 Mr Yusufov was a Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Economic Security Committee under the RSFSR President.

In the next two years Mr Yusufov held managerial positions at state and private enterprise “RV-Trading”.

In the period from 1996 to 2001 Mr Yusufov was Deputy Industry Minister of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Russian State Reserves Committee of the Russian Federation and later General Director of the Russian State Reserves Agency.

From 2001 till 2004 Mr Yusufov led Energy Ministry of the Russian Federation. From 2004 he was a Special Envoy of the Russian President for International Energy Cooperation.

He also represented interests of Russian Federation at international arena as an Ambassador at Large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

From 2003 till 2013 Mr Yusufov has been a Member of the Gazprom Board of Directors.

In 2011 Mr Yusufov started private investment activity via Fund Energy, solely founded by him.


Being Minister of Energy, Special Envoy of the President of the Russian Federation for International Energy Cooperation and Board Member of OJSC Gazprom, Igor Yusufov actively participated in many international projects in oil and gas and energy fields in Russia and abroad.

He participated in implementation of various projects related to exploration of oil and gas reserves in Russia and CIS countries as well as in development of international routes for crude oil and gas transportation.
